Catspaw Audio Arts combines a digital recording studio, film and video scoring service, and mixing and mastering facility.  Artists can record in our turn-of-the-last century barn, now renovated for tracking live or overdubbing.  Or, we can bring a mobile, sixteen-track digital rig to the artist - even to live gigs.  This site explains our services, rates, and provides samples of our work.

Audio and Sound Engineering

Catspaw Audio Arts does all things audio:  Music tracking, mixing and mastering; audio post production for television, film, video, multimedia, and interactive media; voiceover;  demo production; and audio transfer services.

Audio mastering is the difference between a "demo" and a "record". This process includes relative level adjustments between songs, noise reduction, dynamics processing for maximum punch, equalization, limiting and dithering.  All of the audio will "translate" properly on all playback systems.

Mixing & Mastering

Our rate for mixing is $20/hr.  The average is $60 for a song with a reasonable track count, but the hourly rate decreases for larger projects like a CD or movie.  We accept OMF files ("Pro Tools" format), WAV, AIFF, and many compressed files like MP3, MP4, M4V.   If you bring us tracks recorded elsewhere, we will check them for noise or artifacts, and then mix.  We can send you sample mixes for your review as often - or as infrequently - as you like.  Finally, the mix will be checked on numerous speaker systems, including low-, medium- and high-quality auto sound systems,  to ensure that the mixes "translate" well. Live Recording

Our rate for live 2-track recording is $25/hr plus $25 for transfer to CD.  For 16-track live recording, the rate is $35/hr.  Again, though, discounts may apply for large projects or regular gigs.

 

Producing

We assist singers and songwriters produce master quality demos.  We can even add tracks to your song, as we did with Any Other Thing, by singer-song-writer Chris Bosch.  Using the most current software production tools we can produce music in any style at surprisingly low rates.

Pricing

When booked hourly, services on location - usually recording - are $30/hr. Booked hourly, services provided at our studios are $25/hr. However, we can also provide quotes for entire projects, such as location recording of concerts, or tracking, mixing, and mastering of an album or series of songs.
