About
Catspaw Audio Arts is a full-service audio recording, mixing and mastering studio founded by John Seidel, an award-winning composer, film composer, jazz musician, and audio engineer.
What’s our philosophy? The answer is, we are musicians and composers first, and understand that we’re working on your brainchild. The last thing we want is to get between you and your vision. We’ll record it your way, at your place or ours. We can also add musical parts, as we did with "Any Other Thing," by Chris Bosch, which started with Chris's mono guitar and vocal track. At the mixing and mastering stage, we’ll make suggestions, but feel free to “just say no” and we’ll do it your way. You’ll leave with the music you made and maybe more – maybe a little more thump or air; maybe a lot more. Regardless, it will be your performance.
Our philosophy is perfect for emerging performers and composers looking for simple production alternatives. We specialize in groups that want their recordings to capture the energy of live performance by the entire group. Take a look at our main, live room: A turn-of-the-century barn first converted into a yoga studio and then into large recording room with several kinds of custom-made sound baffles. We’re also very proud of our state-of-the-art, sixteen-channel digital mobile recording rig, complete with mobile sound baffles, amp isolators, and a top-notch selection of microphones, including two rare Telefunken U47 condenser mics, originally constructed in the 1950s and rebuilt in the 1980s. With this rig and the fastest Macbook pro, we can record your group virtually anywhere. Mixing and mastering takes place largely in-the-box, using a diverse collection software emulations of audio processors, both vintage and modern.
